The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is pleased to announce multiple ways to visit Bodie Island, Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke lighthouses this year, which includes in-person visits at the Bodie Island and Ocracoke lighthouses, and new options to virtually explore the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

Bodie Island Lighthouse

The climbing season at the Bodie Island Lighthouse begins tomorrow, May 13. This season, climbing hours have been extended, with first entry at 9 a.m. and final entry at 5:30 p.m.

Climbing tickets can only be purchased on the day of your intended climb at www.recreation.gov (search for Bodie Island Lighthouse). Tickets go on sale daily at 7 a.m. Tickets may not be purchased for future dates.

To keep climbers safe, group size will be minimized, and masks will be required. For more information on regular climbing ticket prices, rules, and safety information, go to www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/lighthouseclimbs.htm.

Full moon climbs of the Bodie Island Lighthouse will be offered June 24, July 23, August 22 and September 20. Tickets for the full moon climbs must be purchased at www.recreation.gov starting at 10 a.m. three days prior to each climb date.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is not expected to open for climbing until at least late this summer due to an interior paint removal project. Learn more about the lighthouse restoration project at go.nps.gov/cahalighthouserestoration. Outdoor areas around the lighthouse remain open.

In addition to visiting the outside of the lighthouse in person, the public can also virtually visit the top and inside of the lighthouse.

Webcam

In partnership with Outer Banks Forever, a webcam was installed at the top of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The webcam allows visitors to continue to enjoy the view from the lighthouse during the restoration project. To view the webcam, go to www.obxforever.org/obx-national-parks-webcams.

Virtual Tour

Explore the new virtual tour of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at www.nps.gov/hdp/exhibits/caha/tour. Each tour stop along the way to the top of the lighthouse includes an interactive 360-degree photograph and historical information. The virtual tour is a great tool for educators and teachers around the country to connect their students to the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

Ocracoke Lighthouse

Beginning Memorial Day, the base of the Ocracoke Lighthouse will be open seven days a week. Specific hours will be announced in the coming weeks.
