Anne Petera to seek GOP nomination for Dare BOC

Share post:

The seat is currently held by Republican Jack Shea, who has not announced whether he will seek another term.

Petera sent the following press release to the Outer Banks Voice:

At the Jan. 11 meeting of the Dare County Republican Party, Anne Petera, the Party’s current Treasurer, announced her intention to seek the Party’s nomination to run for the At-Large Seat on the Dare County Board of Commissioners.

Her announcement at the meeting also included the following remarks:

“When I asked the Executive Committee last spring to consider me as a candidate for the vacancy on the Board of Commissioners, I knew it was a long shot.

I very much appreciated being considered and having the opportunity to address the Executive Committee and share my qualifications and desire to serve.

After Rob Ross’ election by the Committee, I immediately volunteered to serve as Treasurer of the Dare County Republican Party and was elected at the following Executive Committee meeting.  Ronnie and I have continued to be engaged with the Committee and have enjoyed working with all of you to advance our conservative principles.

I have spoken with Jack Shea, and though he has not yet decided whether he will seek re-election to the Board of Commissioners this year, he has encouraged me to proceed with my announcement this evening.

I am so very appreciative of the encouragement I’ve received from many of you to run, and continue to believe that my lifelong experience in business, Republican politics, and Government at the State and Federal levels have prepared me well to be an effective Dare County Commissioner.

And so, after over 40 years as a Republican Party volunteer and leader, I think its about time for me to finally be a candidate.  I will submit my candidate filing forms in February for the at-large seat on the Dare County Board of Commissioners.  I promise to make you proud of me as a candidate, and God willing, as a Commissioner.”

Petera’s background, education and political history was also provided:

Here’s her Facebook live video announcing her candidacy.
