Ocean Overwash Possible For Hatteras Island This Week
Ocean overwash and moderate beach erosion is possible along the Outer Banks this week, per a Monday afternoon update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
Large, period swells from a strong storm system over the Atlantic Ocean could lead to coastal flooding, and Highway 12 on Hatteras Island may become flooded as a result, especially in areas that were hit hard by flooding earlier in the month.
Maximum wave heights up to 13 feet are forecast Monday night through Wednesday night from Buxton north, and the highest water levels are expected on Wednesday morning.
