Per the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office, there is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms for Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday night.

The storms are associated with a cold front that will be moving through Eastern North Carolina this evening, and the risk for severe weather is highest in mainland Hyde County and Dare County.

Damaging straight line wind gusts are the biggest threat with these storms, with winds up to 25 mph forecast for the islands this afternoon, however some large hail, and even an isolated tornado will be possible. Showers are also expected early this afternoon through this evening.
