Highlights from the April 16 Board of Commissioners Meeting

The Dare County Board of Commissioners (BOC) covered a modest range of Hatteras Island-related issues at their April 16 meeting in Manteo.

Topics which pertained to the island and / or the local community included the following. 

Fourth of July Fireworks

At the request of the Dare County Tourism Board, Commissioners approved matching grant awards for 4th of July fireworks in Avon, Kill Devil Hills, Manteo and Nags Head.

Budget Workshop

Prior to their meeting, Commissioners held a workshop to review the budget for the next fiscal year that begins on July 1. This will be the second year of the County’s 2-year budget cycle. Department heads attended the workshop to answer questions and provide input as needed.

Roanoke Island Dog Park

County Manager Bobby Outten reported that the final “punch list” is being completed at the new Roanoke Island Dog Park and the official opening will be announced soon.

During public comments, two citizens spoke about the site – Judy Williams thanked Commissioners for their support of the project and for their follow through and commitment to making it happen. Jack Huh proposed an agility yard as part of the space and offered to donate equipment if additional fencing is erected and details can be worked out.

Next Meeting of the Board of Commissioners
