One of the tastiest events on the Outer Banks, the Outer Banks Seafood Festival sponsored by TowneBank and Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, is coming up shortly. The third annual festival will be on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine, at the soundside Outer Banks Event Site in Nags Head.
The mission of the Outer Banks Seafood Festival is to provide a fun and educational experience promoting, honoring and celebrating the area’s seafood heritage and community. To that end, the festival offers opportunities to meet watermen and see the tools of their trade, including boats. It also offers cooking demonstrations, educational booths and, best of all, the chance to eat fresh, local seafood from more than a dozen restaurants.
The cost for admission is $3. Food and beverages (beer, wine, water and soft drinks) are purchased with SeaBucks, the currency of the festival.
Some of the restaurants serving seafood and other items at the festival include Sam & Omie’s, Awful Arthur’s, Striper’s, Sugar Creek, Darrell’s II, Mulligan’s, The Salad Bowl, Captain George’s, Proof Bakery, BK Shuckers, The Lone Cedar, Dirty Dick’s, Kelly’s and Jolly Roger.

There is no on-site parking at the festival. Free shuttles run approximately every half hour or less from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Shuttle service for vendors and volunteers will begin running from the Nags Head Elementary School/Dowdy’s lot at 6 am.
