Buxton Beach Nourishment Update
Buxton Beach Nourishment Update
After working from the northern subline or landing point for several days last week, the hopper dredge R. N. Weeks connected to the southern subline near the village’s northern boundary on Saturday and pumped sand to the area until approximately 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
Due to the current cold front and high waves over the past several days, the dredge departed for Norfolk on Monday evening and is scheduled to return later this week.
When the dredge returns, Weeks Marine plans to continue working south through the village of Buxton to the southern project boundary before moving back to the northern portion of the project to complete the full scope of work.
As of October 18, approximately 42,000 cubic yards of sand – or 38% of the total project volume of sand – had been pumped.
