Coastal Storm Expected to Bring Winds, Rain Beginning Sunday

A coastal storm is expected to bring snow to mainland eastern North Carolina, and heavy winds and rains to the Outer Banks, starting on Sunday, per a Thursday morning briefing from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

Approximately 2 inches of rain is currently forecast for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands from Sunday, December 9, through Monday, with maximum wind gusts of up to 45 mph. Very rough surf is expected during the storm, with possible minor flooding, coastal flooding, and beach erosion. A clearer forecast of potential impacts is expected over the weekend, as the storm approaches.
