Doughtie to Run for Another Term as Dare County Sheriff
Sheriff J.D. “Doug” Doughtie will seek a third term as Dare County’s top law enforcement officer.
“I have enjoyed being your sheriff for the past seven years and look forward to serving you again for four more years,” Doughtie said in a post on his Facebook page Tuesday afternoon.
The Republican from Kill Devil Hills was first elected in 2010 when he defeated two-term incumbent Rodney Midgett, and then in 2014 turned back a challenge from retired deputy Terry Ballance.
There have been no challengers so far to announce they will run against Doughtie, who is entering his fourth decade of service in law enforcement and was with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office from 1988 until his retirement in 2006.
The filing period for the 2018 elections is scheduled to being February 1.
