The Avon Fishing Pier is planning to open to the public on Friday, May 5.

In 2022, the pier also opened on May 5, but in previous years, the Avon Pier had a late start to the season due to damage from a number of nor’easters or hurricanes.

This past year, however, there have been no major storms that damaged the pier, and the annual repairs and maintenance required for the 60-year-old structure were minimal.

Hatteras Island’s other fishing pier – the Rodanthe Pier – opened to the public for the season on April 1, 2023.

For more information on the Avon Pier, including future updates and times of operation, visit their Facebook page or website.
