Video from U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet
At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet received a report of a disabled vessel, the F/V STUBBORN ONE, which was located approximately 30NM due southeast of the Oregon Inlet sea buoy.
Conditions on the Oregon Inlet bar warranted a 47’ motor lifeboat crew to head out and tow the disabled vessel to safety.
As seen in the video above, which was taken by the master of the vessel, one motor lifeboat towed F/V STUBBORN ONE inbound through six-foot breakers, while another motor lifeboat swung behind to knock down waves from the stern. “Off the stern, you’ll notice two lines on a shackle (this setup is known as a bridle), connected on the end underwater is a parachute we know as a drouge,” stated Station Oregon Inlet in an online update. “These help us control vessels in tow, adding some drag and reducing bow swing.”
The vessel was brought back to safe harbor in Wanchese and crews returned home at 4:00 p.m. that day.
