At 4:30 p.m. on October 25, U.S. Coast Guard Sector NC notified the Hatteras Inlet station of a vessel, the F/V Miss Sophia, taking on water near Pringleton Shoal, just north of Engelhard.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet launched their shallow water asset, CG24508, and their Motor Lifeboat, CG47308, and began making way towards the vessel’s last known position.

At 505 p.m., CG24508 arrived on the scene. Miss Sophia had already begun making way towards Engelhard, and shortly after ran aground. After freeing herself from the shoal, Miss Sophia arrived at Engelhard at 6:02 p.m. She was continuously taking on water, but her bilge pumps were keeping up, and the Coast Guard crew was standing by with the P-6 dewatering pump.

Two of the crew members went on board to assist with mooring, and Miss Sophia was moored minutes later with approximately 300 gallons of water in her engine compartment. No injuries were reported during the incident.
