The Dare County Board of Education will meet in a special session on Wednesday, September 1, at 5:00 p.m., at the First Flight High School. Per the meeting announcement, the purpose of the meeting is to review local COVID-19 data since the start of the 2021-2022 school year, and local implementation procedures of the StrongSchoolsNC Public Health Toolkit (K-12).

At the August 5 meeting of the Board of Education, the board voted 6-1 to allow for optional mask-wearing as opposed to mandatory masks at the county’s schools, and this policy may be revisited at the special September 1 session.

The meeting is open to the public and will be broadcast live via YouTube. Following state law and board policy, the board is not required to hear public comments in this special called meeting. Public comments will next be heard at the September 14, 2021, business meeting of the Board of Education.

For more information, including the schedule for upcoming meetings, see the Board of Education webpage at https://www.daretolearn.org/board-of-education/board-meetings/.
