Dare County to offer free counseling services to local Veterans
Dare County Department of Health & Human Services’ Veterans Services Division is pleased to announce a new mental health counseling service available to local Veterans through the Vet Center in Greenville, North Carolina. A service of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Greenville Vet Center is one of many small, non-medical counseling centers across the country available exclusively to Veterans.
Vet centers are staffed by highly-trained counselors and team members dedicated to seeing individuals through the challenges that come with managing life during and after the military. Vet Centers are committed to providing confidential help for Veterans, service members, and their families at no cost.
“We encourage any Veteran in Dare County who needs counseling to contact the Vet Center to see if they are eligible for services,” said Dare County Veterans Services Officer Patty O’Sullivan, noting that individual, family and group counseling is available by appointment and can be held in Dare County. Services include counseling for depression, grief, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the psychological effects of Military Sexual Trauma (MST).
Veterans may be eligible for services regardless of their discharge status or eligibility for VA health care. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, contact Greenville, N.C.
