Dare, Hyde and Currituck Counties Announce Entry for Visitors Beginning May 16
Dare County, in coordination with Hyde and Currituck Counties, will lift restrictions on entry for visitors beginning Saturday, May 16 at 12:01 a.m. This decision follows the announcement by Governor Roy Cooper yesterday (May 5) to issue Executive Order 138 which will modify North Carolina’s Stay at Home order and transition to Phase 1 of slowly easing certain COVID-19 restrictions.

Entry for visitors on Saturday, May 16 at 12:01 a.m. includes the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head and Manteo; Hatteras Island; Roanoke Island; the Dare mainland; the Currituck County Outer Banks; and Ocracoke Island.
Allowing visitors on May 16 will allow seven days for local businesses, attractions, and accommodations providers to prepare for the arrival of visitors following the new business operating requirements put in place by the Governor’s Executive Order 138.
Before traveling to the Outer Banks, visitors are encouraged to contact their accommodations provider to confirm their reservation and arrival plans.
As visitors prepare for vacation, it is important to remember that the coronavirus is not over. There are still State and local restrictions in effect to protect everyone’s safety that may impact the way you have vacationed on the Outer Banks in the past, including:
- Social distancing guidelines are still in place.
- Gatherings are limited to 10 people or less.
- Getting food from restaurants continues to be on a take-out or delivery basis.
- Businesses, including grocery stores, have limits on the number of people allowed in the store at any given time based on square footage.
- Personal care and grooming businesses and entertainment businesses without retail or dining are not open yet based on state regulations which are not determined or controlled by our local government.
Also, remember that the CDC recommends not to travel if you are sick or were recently exposed (within 14 days) to COVID-19.
Additionally, individuals are encouraged to wear a mask or cloth face covering in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Like many places in the United States, all shoppers should expect to see changes in product availability at grocery and retail outlets as supply chain demand fluctuates across the nation. If possible, visitors should bring essentials with them, including paper and sanitizing products and non-perishable groceries.

Is anyone surprised by this? It would have been a much better plan to have let the NRHO’s in before this week to give at least 2 weeks to see if infections went up substantially. I’d like to see a follow up plan in the event things get out of control. The grocery store restrictions by themselves will be a complete hassle.
Was nice while it lasted..
One more week until we need to shelter at home and go only to the nice beaches two miles up the road. Will have to stock up on supplies to get through the dreaded summer months.
Buddy Russell, California is calling you. Please go !
Why, Cali is an over regulated place with too many people. Been here 35 years, have a home and more work than I can handle. This was a much better place 20 years ago, tourism was healthy and the type of people were great. Now tourism is very destructive and the demographic leaves a lot to be desired
out of curiosity

Knowing WHO stayed there previous week
Who’s taking the RESPONSIBILITY to Disinfect and cleaning the houses, are the air filters going to be changed ? , are the cleaners going to be protected ? ,if a cleaner is infected will the virus be transmitted to the other houses they clean ?

Must be hard living in so much fear Robo…
Had to end sometime.
Since when has reality and facts considered to be fear?
73,431 DEATHS and counting
$4,000,000,000,000 and counting in DEBT
Who’s afraid 🤪 ?
Based on your last comment, looks like your paranoid
“Cali is over regulated” says the guy who supports government keeping people from their property… Get over yourself. The fact is the majority of people don’t even need hospitalization and Stanford University epidemiologists pegged the fatality rate at between 0.1% and 0.2, comparable to the common flu.
I do not support the government keeping someone from property. I do support common sense and not intentionally harming others, which is what you wold be doing by bringing the virus here. Also you would be breaking your own state and county rules by coming here.
I’ll add that had you came during the lockdown you would have been required to quarantine for 14 days. If your house is rented and you claim it as a business on your tax returns 14 days is all you get without being in violation of the tax code. If your Self-Directed IRA or Solo 401K owns the home then you cannot spend a single night nor perform work on it without being in violation of existing tax laws. It is surprising to me how many people own homes this way. I assume they most likely disregard the tax law and treat it like it is their own. These are financial instruments most people have probably never heard of, but if you are self-employed you might as it gives you the ability to invest in things you cannot in traditional IRA’s and 401K’s.
Defining Personal Use of Property:
The days spent doing any maintenance on the property do not count against your personal use. Even staying at the property for a month, fixing it up, do not have to be reported to the IRS
Wow! Thanks for that totally unsolicited tax advice when you know nothing about anyone’s personal business.
Actually I wouldn’t be breaking my county or states rules. Like the majority of Americans, I don’t have the virus and would have stayed at my property (which I pay a lot of property tax on). I also always bring down my own food as per usual.
There will be many considerate visitors coming but you can bet there’s a few that dont give a damn about Dare county one bit. ..as long as they get that week. Already seen people refusing to wear a mask and doing stupid hygiene with this going on….good luck everyone, your gonna need it. There better be sheriffs posted near the grocery stores.
