Demolition at College of the Albemarle’s Dare County Campus Began Sept. 28

Share post:

The first phase of the demolition of a building at College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Dare County Campus located at 205 U.S. Highway 64 in Manteo began at 9 a.m. on Sept. 28, 2020.

The building—which was formerly Manteo High School and later Manteo Middle School before becoming part of COA—is being demolished in order to clear the site for construction of a two-story, state-of-the-art academic building that will take its place. Demolition began with the former auditorium, which is located on the south side of the building.

Several Dare County officials were on site to watch as the demolition began, including Chairman Bob Woodard, Commissioner Danny Couch, County Manager Bobby Outten and Finance Director David Clawson.

The demolition process will take approximately two months to complete. Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed in February 2022.
