Flood Watch in effect for the Outer Banks on Thursday, July 25

The National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City office has issued a Flood Watch for Thursday, July 25, that is in effect until midnight for all of Eastern North Carolina, including Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop through late this evening. Rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour are expected, with rainfall totals of 2-4″ possible. Higher amounts of 4-8″ will be possible for some locations across Eastern N.C.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
