Freezing temperatures possible Tuesday night and this weekend
Freezing temperatures are possible on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, as well as this weekend, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City Office.
While temperatures during the day on Tuesday, January 16, will be in the mid-to-high 50s, nightly temperatures will fall into the low 30s along the coastline, and are expected to be even lower in mainland areas of eastern North Carolina.
Temperatures are expected to also dip below freezing this weekend, beginning Friday night, with daytime temperatures in the 30s forecast for Saturday and Sunday along with strong northerly winds.
The public is advised to protect outdoor pets and sensitive vegetation as needed. A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect from 5:00 p.m. Tuesday until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday due to north winds of 15 to 25 kt, with gusts up to 30 kt, and rough waters expected.
