11:15 A.M. UPDATE: Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry operations have resumed for Tuesday, April 19, starting with the 11:30 a.m. departure from Hatteras and the 1:00 p.m. departure from Ocracoke. Some departures may be running late as the ferry tries to get back on schedule for the remainder of the day, per an update from NCDOT.

Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry operations remained suspended as of Tuesday morning, April 19, due to shoaling in the ferry channel and high wind conditions, per an update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

Service will resume as soon as the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferries are able to make safe passage, and the Swan Quarter and Cedar Island routes to and from Ocracoke Island are currently running as scheduled. (Click here to view the Swan Quarter and Cedar Island spring ferry schedules.)

Ferry operations were suspended on early Monday morning, April 18, due to shoaling and high winds from a coastal storm, and have remained suspended since.

The public can stay updated on ferry operations and when they resume via Twitter at https://twitter.com/NCFerryHatteras or via the NCDOT’s travel and road conditions website, https://drivenc.gov.
