National Weather Service to host Hurricane Community Forum on July 30 in Avon
The National Weather Service (NWS) has announced two upcoming Hurricane Community Forums, which include a forum in Avon on July 30, and a forum in Manteo on July 31.
- The July 30 Avon Forum will start at 2 p.m. and will be held at the Avon Fire Station on Harbor Road.
- The July 31 Manteo Forum will start at 10 a.m. at the Dare County Emergency Management Center on 370 Airport Road.
The free public discussions about hurricane preparedness include a presentation from a meteorologist with the National Weather Service on hurricanes and their impacts on Eastern North Carolina.
The forums will cover why the public should never focus on just the category of the storm, and will also discuss all of the impacts any tropical cyclone can bring.
“It may be quiet now, but remember, hurricane season does not peak until September,” stated the NWS Morehead/City office in an online announcement. “Are you prepared? Join us on July 30th at 2 p.m. in Avon or July 31st at 10 a.m. in Manteo. If this is too far from you or you can’t make it, visit https://www.weather.gov/mhx/hurricanecommunityforums/ for more info, including recordings!”
