Avon once again has a “Welcome” sign at the north entrance of town, thanks to the generosity of the members of the Avon Property Owners Association (APOA).

The new replacement sign was built by Coastal Impressions to match the “Welcome” sign at the south entrance of Avon, and it was painted by local artist, Vicky Lowe.

The original sign was stolen in late July 2022, per the Dare County Sheriff’s Office. A $1,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for the theft, but the sign and the individual(s) were not recovered.

The new sign was built and installed at a cost of approximately $3,000.

The new Avon sign is just one of the many projects the APOA manages for the betterment of the Avon community. Other projects include the weekly Farmers Market, the 4th of July fireworks display, the red ‘beach trash’ cans, and maintenance of many of the ocean boardwalks. The public can learn more about the APOA by visiting their website at: https://www.avonpoa.org.
