Ocracoke-mainland ferry operations resume; Ocracoke-Hatteras ferry service remains suspended
Ferry service has resumed for the Ocracoke-Cedar Island and Ocracoke-Swan Quarter routes, per an update from the North Carolina Ferry System. Ferry service for the Ocracoke-mainland routes was suspended earlier on Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions.
Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry service remains suspended as of 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, as N.C. Highway 12 on northern Ocracoke Island is closed between the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry terminal and the National Park Service Pony Pens due to excessive flooding. Ferry service will resume once road conditions improve.
A one-vehicle fatal accident was also reported on northern Ocracoke Island on Tuesday morning, prior to the highway closure.
