Registration is now open for Dare’s 2025 State of the County
Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Robert L. “Bob” Woodard Sr. will deliver the annual State of the County presentation on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant, located at 705 S. Croatan Highway in Kill Devil Hills.
The doors will open for seating beginning at 8 a.m., with a full breakfast buffet to be served starting at 8:15 a.m. Chairman Woodard’s presentation will begin at 8:45 a.m. During the presentation, Chairman Woodard—along with several special guest speakers—will touch on an array of topics that are of the utmost importance to the citizens of Dare County, including the following:
- Buxton Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS): An update on the current status of the Buxton FUDS, including a look into the remediation work that has been completed thus far, as well as the ongoing efforts to fully restore the site.
- Dare Community Housing Task Force: The latest initiatives being undertaken by the Dare Community Housing Task Force and its ongoing efforts to find solutions to the lack of housing options in Dare County.
- Dare County Parks & Recreation Department: Results from the community needs assessment survey conducted in the fall of 2024 and a look at the current and upcoming facility and field improvements throughout Dare County.
- Dare County’s Early College: An overview of the project in Manteo, as well as the latest updates on its design, construction and plans for the facility’s use once completed.
- Dare County EMS Improvements Project: Updates on the progress being made in the construction of the new Dare County EMS Station 8 in Manns Harbor and the new EMS Station 9 in Kitty Hawk.
Following Chairman Woodard’s presentation, State of the County attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session. Questions may also be submitted in advance to DareCountyPR@DareNC.gov by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Seating is limited, and this event has sold out quickly in recent years, so early registration is strongly encouraged.
Registration Fee: The cost to attend the 2025 State of the County event is $10 per person (plus tax), which includes a full breakfast provided by Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant, as well as attendance to the chairman’s State of the County presentation. Tickets are nonrefundable.
