Six sea turtles will be going home this weekend after being rehabilitated by the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island’s Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation Center, or STAR Center.

The four loggerhead sea turtles and two green sea turtles will be released at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Frisco Bath House, 56310 N.C. 12, just south of Frisco.

The half a dozen turtles were recently cleared for release by the veterinary team. Of these turtles, five recovered from being cold-stunned this past winter, and the sixth is healthy again after healing from an entanglement, according to a release.

If the parking lot is full, parking on the shoulder of N.C. 12 is permitted, if completely off the highway.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Network for Endangered Sea Turtles partnered with the aquarium to make the release possible.

In case of a weather cancellation, an update will be posted to the aquarium’s Facebook page and other social media sites.
