Seasonal Ocracoke Express passenger ferry service ends early due to weather concerns
The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry service ended for the 2022 season on Wednesday, September 28, due to the potential for severe weather over the next few days, per an update from the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division.
Passenger ferry service was originally scheduled to end on Friday, September 30. The passenger ferry operates during the summer season, and service will resume in May of 2023.
The Ferry Division noted that other ferry operations, including the Hatteras-Ocracoke vehicular ferry and the Ocracoke-mainland ferries, may be impacted over the weekend, depending on the weather.
“Other routes will likely be affected as the weather deteriorates, so if you’re traveling this weekend, go to ncferry.org, scroll down to ‘Current Conditions’, choose your route from the drop-down menu, and get up-to-date information on your route’s status,” stated the Ferry Division in the Wednesday afternoon update. “We are expecting a lot of wind and a lot of rain this weekend, so please drive carefully wherever you’re going.”
