Traffic accident north of Avon causes delays on N.C Highway 12

1:30 P.M. UPDATE: The accident site north of Avon has been cleared, and traffic has resumed to normal, with no delays. 

A traffic accident involving an overturned tractor-trailer truck north of Avon has led to delays on N.C. Highway 12 as of Monday afternoon, per multiple reports.

The truck overturned on Monday morning into a soundside ditch approximately one mile north of Avon. The Dare County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Highway Patrol, Dare County EMS, and Avon Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident. It is not yet known whether there were any injuries in the accident.

Travelers should use caution and expect delays on N.C. Highway 12 as personnel continue to clear the site of the accident. The Island Free Press will post updates as they become available.
