UPDATE: Woman charged with attempted murder after incident at Frisco utility work zone

A woman has been charged with two felonies, including attempted murder, following an incident Wednesday night near a utility work zone on Hatteras Island.

According to Dare County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Donnie Varnell, Susan Elizabeth Myers, 65, was driving her vehicle near Gingerbread Bakery and Pizza when she allegedly struck an employee of the contractor replacing electrical transmission poles in Frisco.

Witnesses stayed with Myers until authorities arrived. Dare County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene in the 52700 block of N.C. Highway 12 in Frisco at approximately 8:20 p.m.

One person was transported to the Outer Banks Hospital for their injuries and has since been released, according to information received by Investigator Varnell.

Myers, who has a Maryland address listed in the arrest report but resides in Frisco, is charged with attempted first degree murder, felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

She is being held at the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
