Rodanthe resident’s wedding photo is a winner

Melinda Baker of Rodanthe was named a winner in the 2011 Outer Banks Photo Contest, sponsored by Outer Banks–based Village Realty.

Baker’s photo won the top prize in the “I Do” category. The photo her sister and her husband on the beach at the Rodanthe pier following their June 18, 2011, wedding.

14th annual Wedding Weekend will be Jan. 7-8

The Outer Banks Wedding Association (OBWA) will sponsor it 14th Annual Wedding Weekend in January. This event will kick off on Saturday, Jan. 7, with a self-guided tour of wedding-related businesses, including ceremony and reception locations. The weekend will conclude on Sunday, Jan. 8, after an Expo boasting the largest vendor meet-and-greet in the Outer Banks area with more than 170 wedding vendors to answer questions for brides and their families.

Cena Meekins and Wayland Jennette Jr. were married on Thursday, June 2, in a classic island wedding under a gnarled old live oak tree at the bridegroom’s mother’s family home on the soundside in Frisco. The invited guests included family and friends of the couple. But it was an invited guest that caused quite a stir.

Tying the knot for Hatteras bridal couples is a labor of love for local minister

“I just want to make couples happy,” the minister begins.  “I feel so blessed to be in this business.”

This Avon resident has made a living doing many different things on the island.  Her latest career choice is not typical, especially when ministers are traditionally men.

Bonnie Williams is an ordained non-denominational minister who started Hatteras Wedding Ministries in 2007.  Since that time, she has performed around 200 ceremonies.
