On Tuesday afternoon at 12:39 p.m., the Avon Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to a vehicle fire at the Super Wings Store in Avon at 40494 N.C. Highway 12.

The Avon VFD’s Engine 46 crew arrived at the scene within minutes of the initial call and found a Jeep Wrangler with a fully involved engine compartment fire.

The Engine 46 crew deployed a 1.75-inch hose line and the fire was quickly and fully extinguished by 12:55 p.m.

“Avon Volunteer Fire Department is proud to protect and serve the community and visitors of Hatteras Island,” stated the organization in an online update.

Per Avon Fire Chief Frank Hopkins, the cause of the fire is unknown, but the Avon VFD has responded to at least seven vehicle fires in the past five years. There were no injuries reported in the incident.
