DMV mobile unit visits will resume in the area 

The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles today announced an initial solution for dealing with its beleaguered mobile unit service and continuing to provide driver license services to areas in northeastern North Carolina, beginning next week.
 
The division remains committed to continuing service to customers. It will begin service on Sept. 10 to towns on the mobile unit’s route. A new schedule has been developed, allowing relief units from other locales to deliver services.
 
“Because of the mechanical problems with this unit, we have not been delivering service up to our expectations for much of this year,” said Motor Vehicles Commissioner Nick Tennyson. “We have adjusted our schedule and reallocated units and personnel to resume our service to the area,” he said. 
 
“We have had a study underway to determine what we can do about the high cost of a mobile solution and how changes in technology might help us find a more efficient solution,” he said. “Finding a long-term solution has been a test of DMV creativity and ingenuity.”
 
DMV will restore service to the northeastern localities with the following visits:

Plymouth, Sept. 10, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Columbia, Sept. 11, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Currituck, Sept. 13, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Swan Quarter, Sept. 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hatteras, Sept. 26, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Scotland Neck, Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Windsor, Oct. 14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Gatesville, Oct. 15, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Currituck, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Plymouth, Oct. 18, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Columbia, Oct. 21, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
