An vote recount in the District 2 Dare County Commissioner race and a seat for the Associate Justice of the North Carolina State Supreme Court is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20, at 9 a.m. in Room 168 of the Dare County Administration Building, 954 Marshall Collins Drive in Manteo.

In the local race, unofficial results on election night gave incumbent Democrat Max Dutton a 60-vote lead over Republican challenger Beverly Boswell.  Following the official canvassing of votes on Friday, Nov. 14, Beverly Boswell won the election with 6,283 votes to Max Dutton’s 6,258 — a difference of just 25 votes.

Dutton has formally requested a recount, which can be done when the difference between the apparent winning candidate and the next candidate is 1 percent or less of the total votes cast for the office.

In the statewide race, Mike Robinson requested a recount in his race against Cheri Beasley for Associate Justice on the N.C. Supreme Court.  The deadline for all 100 counties to complete the recount is Thursday.
