WAVES — William Avner Midgett Sr., 75,died Tuesday June 13, 2012 in Norfolk, Va. Mr. Midgett was bornin Waves and was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard where he served hiscountry honorably in Vietnam and was an expert rifleman. He recentlyretired from the N.C. State Division of Ferries and was a commercialfisherman.
He was the son of the late William Alston and Sarah Louise MidgettMidgett and the husband of Sylvia Gray Midgett of the home.
Besides his wife surviving are three daughters, Joyce M. Watersand husband Randy of Rodanthe, Roberta Midgett and husband Larry ofSalvo, and Karen Jakob and husband Frank of Buxton; one son, William A.Midgett Jr. and wife Sharon of Bridgeville, Del.; one sister, AnnaPendleton of Elizabeth City, and two brothers, Carroll H. Midgett Sr.of Waves and Leland Midgett of Hertford, N.C.; Grandchildren, EricMidgett, Christen Waters, Crystal Waters, Michael Jakob, KimberlyJakob, Johnathan Jakob, Tonya Midgett, Keela Midgett, Nicholas Midgett,and Zachary Midgett, and great-grandchildren, Kameron Midgett,Simone Midgett, Autumn Midgett, Mason Bocks, Daeson Jakob, Riley Jakob,Destyn Jakob, Taylor Jarvis and Juanita Wage. Mr. Midgett waspredeceased by his great-grandson, Kobie Jakob.
A celebration of life will be in Clarkes-Bethel United MethodistChurch, Saturday, June 16, at 2 p.m. by Rev. Bryan Gray. Burial withmilitary honors by the U.S. Coast Guard will be in the family cemeteryon Highway12 in Waves. Friends may join the family atClarkes-Bethel United Methodist Church on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m.
