Per a Thursday update from Hyde County, The boil water advisory in Ocracoke has been lifted by the Ocracoke Sanitary District, and water is safe to drink. The Hyde County Health Department Environmental Health Specialist will be on Ocracoke to instruct citizens how to chlorinate private wells today, Friday, 9/13/19. If you are on Ocracoke and need this assistance, please add your name to the list at the fire station. Replacement Food and Nutrition benefits for Hurricane Dorian
Active Food and Nutrition Services recipients who suffered a food loss during Hurricane Dorian have until September 30, 2019 to request replacement benefits. Hyde County Department of Social Services will be available at The Ocracoke Community Center for assistance from Wednesday, September 11 to Saturday, September 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional Relief Services from Animal Disaster Relief Coalition
The Animal Disaster Relief Coalition is offering relief services to Ocracoke Island. They will be located in the gas station parking lot, open from 7 a.m. until needs subside. They are able to provide the following services to the community and pets:
Animal Services:
- Welfare checks
- Medications and IVs
- Food and water
- Collars and leashed
- Bathing services
Human Services:
- Tree cutting
- Debris removal
- Clean up
- Welfare Check
Cleaning crews
Per the Ocracoke Observer, any Ocracoke residents who need assistance from house cleaning crews and/or chainsaw crews should come to the assistance desk at the Fire Station and put their name on the list. This list will prioritize the crew deployments.
Vehicles parked at NPS parking lot need to be moved
To facilitate the post-Hurricane Dorian recovery efforts on Ocracoke, government agencies are requesting that all vehicles–golf carts, boats, trailers, recreational vehicles and other equipment–be removed from the NPS parking lot (aka the Base Docks) by noon on Monday (Sept. 16).
The inter-agency response associated with recovery from Hurricane Dorian will need to use the parking area to facilitate recovery that support the community to stage equipment and resources. Vehicles not removed from the lot by their owners will be subject to government removal.
