N.C. Ferry System announces Hatteras to Silver Lake cancellations due to adverse weather conditions
The North Carolina Ferry System reported on Wednesday morning that the Hatteras 6:00 a.m. departure to Ocracoke-Silver Lake had to return to Hatteras village due to adverse weather conditions, and additional trips on this route were being canceled throughout the day.
The following Hatteras to Ocracoke Silver Lake trips are canceled for Wednesday, October 9:
- Hatteras: 11:15 a.m.
- Ocracoke Sliver Lake: 8:45 a.m., and 2:30 p.m.
For further info and updates on cancellations, please call 252-996-6000 or visit the N.C. Ferry System’s Twitter page at https://twitter.com/NCFerryHatteras.
The high winds and rough seas are due to a stalled low pressure system offshore, which will likely bring continued adverse weather conditions until late in the week.
North-northeast winds of 15-25 mph with gusts of up to 30-35 mph are forecast for Wednesday, and winds will remain strong with a NNW direction on Thursday and Friday. Winds will slowly diminish Friday night and Saturday morning.
At this time, Ocracoke remains open only to residents, non-resident property owners, and personnel approved by Hyde County for re-entry.
