KILL DEVIL HILLS — Karen Arlene Campen, 64, passed away Sunday, October 27 after a brave two-and-a-half-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her dearest friends and family. Born on January 11, 1955 in Norfolk Va., she was the daughter of Ruby McPherson Campen and McCauley West Campen.
Karen graduated from Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake.
Her amazing creativity and talent in craft woodworking and construction were most often seen in her personal businesses and at work, where she applied her talents to the professional flooring industry for over twenty years. Because Karen had the natural ability to nurture all kinds of animals, she felt happiest at home with her beloved pets, who she said kept her young at heart.
Her memorial mass will be held at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 11 a.m. A graveside committal service will be held at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 1 p.m.
Karen will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Kathy Campen Womack of Kill Devil Hills, NC and her life-long best friend Gail Kowalski of Nags Head, NC as well as several relatives and friends.
Condolences to the family may be expressed via the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
