A public hearing for the Hyde County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance begun at the March 2 will be continued Monday at the commissioners 6 p.m. meeting. It has to be approved before June 19.
Due to the restrictions prohibiting gatherings of 10 or more people, public attendance at the 6 p.m. May 4, Hyde County Board of Commissioners meeting is not possible.
The meeting will be available to watch via Facebook Live or listen to via a phone dial in for those without reliable internet access. Video of the meeting will be posted to the Hyde County website, http://www.hydecountync.gov, the next day.
A hearing on amending the Ocracoke Development Ordinance will precede the flood ordinance hearing.
Jane Hodges, Hyde County building permit technician, explained at the March meeting that the newly released flood maps for the county show that a lot of the county is coming out of the flood zone.
Section 21 says that if a structure is flooded twice in so many years, the building needs to be brought up to code. This wasn’t a requirement previously because the county had thought it would be a hardship for many residents.
