Unrestricted Access to Hatteras Island Effective at 2:00 p.m. Today
Initial Damage assessments have been completed for Hatteras Island and with limited impacts from the storm, there will be unrestricted access for residents and visitors beginning today, August 4 at 2:00 p.m.
Sand and water remain on some Hatteras Island roadways in low-lying areas prone to soundside flooding, particularly along Highway 12 south of the Etheridge Bridge. Expect delays and proceed with caution in these areas. Remember, driving through salt water causes damage to vehicles.
Also, check the weather forecast and road conditions for your travel route to the Outer Banks to ensure safety. For updated road conditions for North Carolina, visit www.drivenc.gov.
A prohibition for ocean swimming remains in effect for Hatteras Island.
“A prohibition for ocean swimming remains in effect for Hatteras Island.”
This is a lie. The county has no jurisdiction over swimming on the National Seashore. One wonders why so many distrust the government. This is a perfect example.
Oh, please. Get over yourself.
If dumb-arses who can’t handle it get in over their heads all sorts of public resources will be used to save them. And then you’d just moan about that – you know, how stupidly your tax dollars are spent (aka wasted).
So rather than just whining about stuff online all of the time, go to the county. Tell them it’s time for a new policy – when conditions are this dangerous, then instead of a “prohibit ocean swimming” order they should issue a “no public resources whatsoever will be offered to those dumb-arses who go into the water and can’t handle what happens. Happy drowning” order.
Your ability to understand practical reality could fit on the head of a pin.
Was nice while it lasted..
next storm please
Nice.
Maybe you just want to live somewhere else? Like someplace where the economy isn’t dependent on tourons. You can’t have you cake and eat it too, as they say.
