Gusty winds, soundside flooding possible on Friday; Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry schedule adjusted

Share post:

The remnants of Zeta and a corresponding cold front will push offshore today, ending the severe weather threat. However, the Outer Banks will still see gusty winds and the potential for soundside coastal flooding on Friday, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.

The winds will keep elevated water levels along soundside locations of the Outer Banks, which could bring minor coastal flooding up to 2 feet above ground adjacent to the sound. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through 2 a.m. on Saturday

Rough surf and dangerous rip currents will also continue along the beaches today, and a high risk of rip currents remains in effect for all Outer Banks beaches.

As of 8:00 a.m. on Friday, there was no flooding reported on N.C. Highway 12 throughout Hatteras Island, however, the N.C. Ferry system has altered its Hatteras-Ocracoke schedule for Friday.

The Hatteras to Ocracoke Ferry Route will miss the following departures today.

From Hatteras: 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m.

From Ocracoke: 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. Call (252) 996-6000 for updates.
