Freezing temperatures are possible through Saturday morning as a cold front impacts the Outer Banks and eastern N.C., per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City Office.
A freeze watch is in effect for Thursday night and Friday morning, and even colder temperatures are possible on Friday night. While temperatures during the day will be in the 40s or low 50s, nightly temperatures will fall into the mid-to-high 30s along the coastline, and are expected to be even lower in mainland areas of eastern North Carolina.
The public is advised to protect outdoor pets and sensitive vegetation as needed. The significant temperature drops could be close to 25 degrees below average for early April. A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect through Friday due to northwest winds of 20 to 30 kt, with gusts up to 35 kt, and very rough waters.
