Sheriff Doughtie wants the public to be aware of this scam and not give out your personal information over the phone.
Scammers have been calling Dare County residents saying they are Captain Moran and there is a warrant for them. The caller wants the citizen to stay on the phone and get a prepaid money card to pay for the phony warrant.
The Sheriff’s Office does not collect money for warrants.
