NCDOT Schedules First Oregon Inlet Closure for Wednesday

Share post:

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has scheduled the first “safety zone” closure of the Oregon Inlet navigation channel for Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The closure is necessary to safely move equipment and personnel working on construction of the new Bonner Bridge. It is the first of several such closures that will occur between Feb. 28 and May 6. All closures will be two hours in length and will be posted to this website at least 48 hours in advance. NCDOT will make every effort to schedule the closures at times when marine traffic is light.

The temporary “safety zone” closure rules were established by the U.S. Coast Guard and are intended to protect mariners, vessels and construction crews from the hazards associated with installing the bridge’s navigation span. Entry of vessels or persons into the safety zone during the closures is prohibited.
