February 14, 1963 – June 16, 2021
KILL DEVIL HILLS — John Edward Daley, 58, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, died Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ on February 14, 1963, he was the son of the late Perrine Mitchell Daley and Thomas Peter Daley.
A graduate of Fishburne Military School, John rose to the rank of Captain and served in many leadership roles at Fishburne. He later attended Campbell University in North Carolina where he was a collegiate track & field competitor, achieving particular success in pole vaulting.
Having spent the summers of his youth at the family beach cottage in Kill Devil Hills, NC, John returned to the Outer Banks after college and, like many, never found a good reason to leave. He formed the Daley Construction Company, and spent the next 30 years building beach cottages and retirement homes on the Outer Banks.
John loved life in the Outer Banks, and in his spare time he could reliably be found on the Albemarle Sound taking long runs on his jet ski – a hobby he was sure to share with visiting nieces and nephews each summer. He also was an avid surf, net and off-shore fisherman.
John is survived by his sister, Marcia Daley Alcorn (Peter) of Richmond, VA; his brother, Thomas P. Daley, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA; his step-son Ruperto Martinez; and his nephew and niece, Christian B. Alcorn and Elizabeth N. Dewey.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Marie Daley Dewey; and nephew, Quentin T. Alcorn.
A Catholic funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Twiford Colony Chapel in Manteo with Deacon Al Hallatt officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Manteo Cemetery.
