U.S. Coast Guard assists disabled vessel in Hatteras Inlet on Sunday morning

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet received a phone call on Saturday night, July 17, about vessel Third Wave, who had lost power to one of their engines, and were unfamiliar with Hatteras Inlet. Coast Guard personnel instructed them to anchor for the night, as crossing the inlet during nighttime would have presented more risks than waiting for first light.

At approximately 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, the CG47308 Motor Life Boat (MLB) got underway to the Third Wave’s last known position, the Hatteras Inlet sea buoy.

CG47308 was on scene and made contact with Third Wave just after 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, and both vessels safely crossed the bar and made their way towards Hatteras village. Third Wave was safely moored at 9:01 a.m., and CG47308 was back at the Hatteras station at 9:39 a.m. on Sunday.
