A line of low pressure systems will impact the Outer Banks region this week, bringing numerous rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms beginning Monday night through Saturday, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.
The latest forecast calls for up to 6-10 inches of rain for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands through the weekend, with locally heavier amounts possible. After a bit of a lull in the rain on Monday, deep moisture returns with heavy rain expected Monday night through later in the week.
Flash flooding will be a concern all week, especially for low-lying areas along the N.C. coast.
Damaging wind gusts, hail, and an isolated tornado or waterspout are also possible during severe thunderstorms, and the public is advised to have multiple ways to receive warnings.
