Ocracoke’s Scallywag 5/10k and Blackbeard Half Marathon to be held November 13-14
November 13, 2021 @ 8:00 am EST
WOVV, Ocracoke Community Radio, in conjunction with our partners, The Ocracoke School Athletic Boosters and The Ocracoke Community Park, proudly announce that we will, once again, host our annual running event on Ocracoke, The Scallywag 5/10k Foot Race and The Blackbeard Half Marathon on Saturday and Sunday, November 13th and 14th. All information is posted on the website runocracoke.com. Runners will gather at the starting line on Highway 12 between 1718 Brewery/Plum Pointe Kitchen and Howard’s Pub for a start time of 8 am Saturday, 7 am Sunday. The 5/10k will be run on Saturday, the half marathon on Sunday. There is an after-party at the finish line for the runners both days, featuring beer from 1718 Brewery, snacks, and music from DJ Tommy Hutcherson. We invite everyone to come and join in the fun!
This event is the result of a huge cooperative effort involving the financial support of multiple sponsors on and off-island, The National Park Service, The Hyde County Sheriff’s Department and numerous generous volunteers before, during and after the race weekend. Everyone involved in this event recognizes the island-wide value of the race weekend to the community of Ocracoke. We bring hundreds of runners, their families and friends to the island in the “shoulder season”, filling hotels, cottages, restaurants, and shops with visitors. And the proceeds of the race are directly supportive of hosting non-profits whose service to the community affects many. Since the beginning of the race, we have dispersed over $200,000 to the Athletic Boosters, Community Park, Ocracoke Child Care, and WOVV to support the various activities of these valuable community non-profits and their work. Without these valuable funds, these organizations would certainly be limited in their scope and effectiveness. We thank all of our sponsors, volunteers, race committee members, and the many runners who support this event with their time, energy and financial support.
Show your support by joining us at this year’s Scallywag 5/10k Race and Blackbeard Half Marathon on Ocracoke Island, November 13th and 14th 2021. Go to runocracoke.com for more information and to sign up. Hope to see you there.
