U.S. Coast Guard Assists Vessel in Oregon Inlet
On Friday morning at approximately 6 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet received a call about a vessel that was taking on water and which was aground in the vicinity of the Bonner Bridge.
The station immediately launched the 47291 MLB (Motor Lifeboat) to assist, and once on scene, the crew determined the water was too shallow to approach the vessel with the MLB. As such, the station launched the 24536 SPC-SW (Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water) to address the situation.
Once on scene, the crews passed a dewatering pump from the 47’ MLB to the 24’ SPC-SW, which was able to get in close to the vessel and begin the dewatering process. All six people on the aground vessel were then safely transferred to the station’s 24’ SPC-SW, and were brought back to Pirates Cove Marina onboard the 47’ MLB.
The aground vessel remains partially submerged in the vicinity of the Bonner Bridge, and mariners are requested by the U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet to exercise caution while transiting the area.
