Dare County Library to Present Virtual “Outer Banks Bird Identification” Program
March 3, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST
The Dare County Library has announced that it will host an interactive bird identification program in partnership with the Cape Hatteras National Seashore from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
“Outer Banks Bird Identification”—which will be held virtually via Zoom—will be hosted by Amy Thompson, who serves as lead biological science technician for Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Ocracoke Island.
This interactive bird identification program will focus on the key characteristics of birds—such as overall profiles, foraging behaviors and habitats—which can help birders with varying levels of experience to identify a specific species quickly and confidently. Thompson’s presentation will focus on the types of birds that are commonly found on the Outer Banks, including warblers, blackbirds, wading birds and shorebirds, among many others.
Whether someone is backyard birding or strolling along the beach, this workshop is designed to help participants refine their identification skills and increase their familiarity with local species.
Programs are free to Dare County residents and property owners 18 years and older; however, registration is required and space is limited. Participants can register up until one hour before the presentation is held.
“Outer Banks Bird Identification” is part of the Dare County Library Enrichment Series for Adults. For a complete list of programs in this ongoing series and to register to attend, click the button below.
