Severe thunderstorms possible on Wednesday
There is a minor risk of severe thunderstorms across eastern N.C. on Wednesday, with the threat of isolated and damaging wind gusts, per a recent update from the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport / Morehead City office.
The best chance for strong to severe storms is Wednesday afternoon and evening from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., (which corresponds with an approaching cold front), and the greatest threat is for areas south of Cape Hatteras in Buxton.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the Pamlico Sound from Wednesday until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, due to northwest winds of 10 to 20 knots, (with gusts up to 30 knots), and rough waters.
