Excessive heat expected through the 4th of July holiday
A combination of very warm temperatures and high humidity will result in dangerous heat index values through the holiday weekend and into Independence Day, per an update from the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City office.
Minimum heat indices of 95 degrees are expected from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday, however, the worst heat is expected on Monday afternoon, with heat indices of 100 degrees or more.
The intense heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
