Fisheries advisory committees scheduled to meet in January
North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission committees will meet in January to discuss various fisheries topics including striped mullet and eastern oyster management plans, and seagrass protection.
The meetings will be held in person and live-streamed on YouTube. Draft agendas and YouTube links can be found on the advisory committee meetings webpage.
The northern advisory committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 9 in the Dare County Administration Building in Manteo.
The southern advisory committee meeting is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 10 in the Department of Environmental Quality Wilmington Regional Office.
Shellfish/crustacean advisory committee meeting is to take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 11, the finfish advisory committee at 6 p.m. Jan. 16, and habitat and water quality advisory committee at 6 p.m. Jan. 17, all in the Division of Marine Fisheries Central District Office in Morehead City.
The northern, southern and finfish committees are scheduled to discuss the Striped Mullet Fishery Management Plan draft amendment 2 and vote on their recommended management options for Marine Fisheries Commission consideration.
The shellfish/crustacean committee is to discuss the outcome of the recent scoping period for the Eastern Oyster Fishery Management Plan amendment 5 and Hard Clam Fishery Management Plan amendment 3.
The habitat and water quality committee is to review and discuss an adaptive management strategy for the protection of critical seagrass habitat through shrimp trawl area closures.
Public comments will be accepted in person during the meetings.
